Following a Costly Scandal, One College AD is Announcing his Retirement

Paul Krebs was a rather anonymous name in the college sports world before word broke a couple of weeks ago that he used more than $60,000 in public funds to finance a trip that included golf in Scotland. Now, Krebs is headed out of his job, as New Mexico announced that he would be retiring effective June 30.
Krebs said the following in an official statement:
“I am proud of my 11 years of service to the University of New Mexico and our accomplishments as a Department. I have had the privilege of working with great coaches and staff during my tenure. Even more important, I am proud of our student-athletes, their character, and how they have represented the University on the playing field and in the community.”
Beyond that, interim University of New Mexico President Dr. Chaouki Abdallah said glowing things about Krebs’ performance in the role.
“I thank Paul Krebs for his outstanding leadership of UNM athletics. His tenure will go down as the most productive and successful in school history. Paul has tried to retire several times over the last year, and now I finally have reluctantly agreed to accept his retirement. Paul and Marjori have been very active in serving the University community, our city and our state. I wish Paul the best in his retirement.”
Still, it should be noted that Krebs is not leaving scot-free. The Albuquerque Journal brings word from Krebs that he “isn’t running from anything” and that the embattled AD had been attempting to offer his retirement for months, even before the incident with the Scotland trip. With that said, the timing is certainly curious and New Mexico now finds itself searching for a replacement in the role.
Using public funds to play golf isn’t going to go over well, but Krebs maintains his innocence with regard to wrongdoing. You be the judge.

New Rule Proposal Could Change Huge Part of College Football

[ PHOTO: SB NATION ]
College football coaches have always had tough decisions near the end of the season when injuries seem to pile up and they want to see what they’re getting in some players next season.
