Yankees Agree to Deal with SS Troy Tulowitzki: Report

The Yankees struck a deal with a shortstop this winter, but not the one everyone was anticipating.
As the Bronx Bombers continue to wait on the decision of free agent Manny Machado, they agreed to deal with shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on Tuesday, physical pending, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

TORONTO -- One of the worst-kept secrets in all of baseball was made official on Wednesday afternoon, when the Blue Jays and manager John Gibbons announced they will be parting ways at the end of the season.
In an unusual move for a departing manager, Gibbons held a joint news conference with general manager Ross Atkins to break the news that had been circulating for the past couple of months. The separation that seemed inevitable for so long finally became a reality.
This wasn't really a firing and it wasn't really a resignation. Instead it was two sides that realized a change of scenery was best for everyone involved. That's pretty uncommon in the modern age of professional sports, but it also seems fitting for a guy who garnered a reputation of being an old-school manager.

The Astros reached 100 wins for the second year in a row, and third time in team history, and reduced their magic number to win their second consecutive American League West title to one with a 4-1 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.
"It's hard to win in this league in general," Astros manager AJ Hinch said. "It's really hard to win in this league when everybody expects it and you have such a small margin for error when there's a reaction every time you don't win. To be at 100 and climbing is remarkable for this team, and we should be very proud."

The Red Sox, who on Tuesday became the first team this season to clinch a playoff berth, reached the century mark in their 146th game. The 2001 Seattle Mariners reached 100 wins in their 140th game, and went on to win a major-league-record 116 games.
Boston has reached 100 wins just four times in team history, last doing it in 1946, when the Red Sox went 104-50 and then lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in a seven-game World Series.

TORONTO — Red Sox manager Alex Cora knew before Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays that he would not have Craig Kimbrel and Carson Smith available out of the bullpen.
Kimbrel had pitched in three of the previous four games, Smith in five of the last six. And the Sox don’t have a scheduled day off until May 21.
What was a small problem became a big one when starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz couldn’t get an out in the fifth inning and was pulled after 103 extra-tedious pitches.
The Sox had a one-run lead and limited means to protect it.
