Usually when a player goes in the top three of the NBA Draft, he is
pretty much set for life financially. That’s why it’s always a huge
surprise when guys like that go bankrupt and have to start selling off
signed memorabilia and personal belongings. That’s now the case for Darius Miles who was the No. 3 overall pick in the much maligned 2000 NBA Draft.
On Sunday, TMZ Sports reported Miles received over $12,000 from the sale of basketball memorabilia and other personal items. Some of the other basketball-related pieces included signed shoes from the Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki and former Laker Lamar Odom. He also sold a Larry Bird jersey, LeBron James jersey, two guns and a toaster, among other items.
Beth Hundsdorfer and George Pawlaczyk of the Belleville News-Democrat reported that Miles listed less than $500,000 in assets and $1.57 million in liabilities on his bankruptcy paperwork all the way back in September of 2016.
The 35-year-old played seven seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 10.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 446 games. He was named to the All-Rookie First Team in 2001 as well.
