According to the Denver Broncos' website, quarterback Peyton Manning has informed the team that he will retire from football. The five-time league MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion leaves the game as one it's greatest ever and the ony quarterback in NFL history to win 200 career games (regular season and playoffs). The future Hall of Famer won his 200th career game in Super Bowl 50 last month.
Overall, Manning, the top pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, spent 18 seasons in the league, quarterbacking the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. His father, Archie, was an NFL quarterback for 16 seasons, mostly with the New Orleans Saints, from 1971-1984. Manning's younger brother, Eli, has been the starting quarterback for the New York Giants since 2004, and has lead them to two Super Bowl championships.
The Denver Post is reporting that the Broncos have extended a three year contract offer to backup quarterback Brock Ossweiler that would pay him roughly $13 million per season. Osweiler was impressive last season, when he made seven starts, replacing the injured Manning. Osweiler went 5-2 in those games.
