On a Saturday night of big plays, Dexter Williams’ 97-yard scoring run early in the third quarter was the biggest as the seventh-ranked Fighting Irish pulled away for a 45-23 win over No. 23 Virginia Tech.
Taking the field hours after losses by fifth-ranked Oklahoma (vs. Texas) and sixth-ranked LSU (at Florida), Notre Dame improved to 6-0 for just the fourth time in the past quarter century. It also happened for the Irish in 2014, 2012 and 2002.
