Here's a crazy story to start your Tuesday: according to rapper Fat Joe, The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 hit song, "I Got A Story To Tell," detailing a sexual relationship between the late Brooklyn rapper and the girlfriend of a New York Knicks player, was about Anthony Mason, who himself passed away last year, after suffering a heart attack.
Fat Joe told the shocking tale to ESPN on Monday, saying:
“What I heard was it was about Anthony Mason, that was the rumor,” Fat Joe told ESPN’s “Highly Questionable.” “That was a very strong possibility rumor it was about Anthony Mason...But you gotta also know, this is entertainment, we stretch the truth, we change things up.”
Check out a clip from Monday's episode of "Highly Questionable" on ESPN below (Skip to 2:12 for relevant portion).
The song, which was released postmortem on Biggie's 1997 album, "Life After Death," details the late rap legends having a one-night-stand with an Knicks' players girlfriend, before being walked-in-on by said player, who arrived home early. The saga ends with Biggie pulling a gun on the player. Biggie insisted the story was true, but the identity of the player remained a mystery for nearly two decades, until Monday.
If you've never heard the explicit hit song, the R-rated lyrics are available here, or you can watch the music video below (Warning: explicit lyrics ahead).
Here's to hoping that The Notorious B.I.G. and Anthony Mason have made peace by now, and are laughing about this in Heaven. Though, something tells me that's not the case. Rest in peace, boys.
